Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday urged health workers to step up their efforts to provide health care to the needy in a humane way.
Congratulating doctors and other health workers at Gandhi Medical College on the World Health Day, Rao said the state government has ensured adequate budgetary allocation to the health sector.
“Sufficient funds are available from doctors in charge of primary health centers, area hospitals, district hospitals and tertiary hospitals. We allowed responsible physicians to make independent decisions so they could quickly spend funds to improve facilities locally. Now is the time for staff to deliver quality health care,” he said.
The minister went on to say that the government had increased the annual budget for the health sector from Rs 6,295 crore to Rs 11,440 crore. After the increase, the medical budget now amounts to 4.5% of the overall state budget.
Rao mentioned that the health department was facing a cash flow crisis, previously adding that was no longer the case. “Strict disciplinary action will be taken against healthcare workers who do not deliver and hard workers will be recognized,” he said.
