MAKKAH: The urban design code for Riyadh’s Sports Boulevard project on Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Road has been revealed.
The Sports Boulevard Foundation board, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, announced the launch after an earlier decision to create a unified design code for the project.
The 135-kilometre-long boulevard, with an estimated area of more than 2.3 million square meters, aims to promote the physical, psychological and social health of residents as well as visitors. It will include green spaces covering approximately 4.4 million square meters.
Chairman of the Saudi Chambers National Real Estate Committee, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Marshad, told Arab News: “The significance of the Sports Boulevard project lies in the fact that it is one of four Riyadh’s major projects launched by King Salman as part of achieving one of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to raise Riyadh’s ranking among world cities.This boulevard encourages citizens to adopt healthy travel habits and motivates them to practice various sports.
“The code aims to establish a local identity and implement the principles of the Salmani architecture,” he added.
The Salmani architectural style is distinguished by its vitality and flexibility. It implores architects and planners to innovate within the confines of a unique Saudi architectural tradition, drawing inspiration from and simulating the past in renewed forms.
Al-Marshad said the project will also provide various housing developments to promote the sector and stimulate development, while meeting energy sustainability standards.
He added: “The code aims to achieve a number of positive aspects that are important for residents and the region, including improving the quality of architectural and urban designs to enhance attractiveness as well as economic efficiency. of the city and the investment environment, while stimulating the housing sector by offering new and diversified housing models.
“It establishes additional pedestrian paths in residential neighborhoods and stimulates development according to standards that ensure sustainability and save energy.”
Eng. Bandar Al-Maarik, a real estate investor and developer from Riyadh, told Arab News: “The Sports Boulevard Foundation has announced the design code for Sports Boulevard in Riyadh, which is a destination aimed at attracting pedestrians, bicycle enthusiasts sports and riders, as well as creators and artists, to a space dedicated to investment.
According to Al-Maarik, the sports boulevard will consist of eight main districts: the arts district, the Wadi Al-Yasen district, the entertainment district, the athletics district, the eco-district, the Wadi Al -Sulai, the sand sports park and Wadi Hanifah area.
“The announcement of this code confirms continued support from wise leaders for great investment opportunities for property investors inside and outside the Kingdom,” he added.
Al-Maarik said: “The implementation of this code will have a positive impact on properties located near Sports Boulevard and create great opportunities for young Saudi men and women, whether engineers, architects or contractors. , in terms of investment, employment. and professional opportunities.
The Sports Boulevard Foundation has allocated a website (www.sportsboulevard.sa/ar/design-code) to beneficiaries and property owners as part of the project designs. The site presents the objectives, standards and requirements of the urban design code, as well as the mechanisms for its application.
